Here is a coin I have never seen before. After looking into it I realized why. This coin is of Edward the VIII, one of the shortest reigning British Monarchs in history. His father, George V died in 1936, the date of this coin and he became the King of England. A few months into his reign, he proposed marriage to an American socialite that was divorced and was currently seeking another divorce from her current husband at that time. The UK opposed the marriage as they did not think that the people would recognize a Queen that was divorced twice. Edward wanted to give up his throne to marry the woman he loved- and he did on December 11, 1936. They did stay married until he died in 1972. So since his reign as King was only 326 days- you won't find many coins with his face. This coin is quite large and it has a Kangaroo on the back- dated 1936- Australia. This photo of Wallis Simpson was also taken the same year of this coin-1936. The coin weighs 27.82 grams. It will be auctioned to the highest bidder at $1 No Reserve.
